When we answer the question "Why Alpacas?" we always start with the fleece for alpacas are first and foremost fleece animals. Shorn once a year in the spring, they produce an exquisite, fine, warm sensuous wool that can me made into countless end products such as sweater, blankets, socks and other clothing items. The possibilities are endless. For those of us who knit, there is nothing more wonderful than knitting with a fine alpaca. The products are soft, can be worn against the skin and are hypoallergenic. Alpaca doesn't contain lanolin like sheep's wool, so provides an alternative that is both softer and warmer than wool.
Another reason we chose alpacas was because they are a an amazing and regal animal while also being a relatively easy-to-care-for livestock species. We find them to be easily halter trained and otherwise handled.
The third reason we raise alpacas is that we believe they provide an outstanding business and lifestyle opportunity with outstanding tax advantages, especially for those who actively manage their herds.
